A Brief Guide to Trex’s Arborfence Composite Fencing System
Following the successful installation of a new composite garden product display at our Oxford branch last year, our fencing range is quickly expanding. The latest addition to our collection comes from leading manufacturer Trex and is a great alternative to timber fencing for anyone seeking a low-maintenance garden perimeter that will stand the test of time. Sound good? Read on to learn all about the new Aborfence composite fencing system, including how much it costs, what you will find in each pack and the numerous benefits you can look forward to after ordering.
What is Arborfence composite fencing?
Since 2005, Trex has been supplying robust, natural-looking composite garden fences, and Arborfence is one of their most popular models. Designed to withstand the elements significantly longer than their timber equivalents, Arborfence fence panels are made from a high-strength blend of reclaimed wood and recycled plastics. Unlike regular timber, this durable material won’t warp, splinter or crack, even when exposed to powerful gusts and heavy rainfall. This makes Arborfence a great replacement for wooden fences that have been damaged in stormy weather.
Available in three colours to complement your home and garden – brown, light grey and dark grey – this innovative fencing system includes everything you need to construct a solid fence. Better still, when used in domestic settings, Arborfence comes with a lengthy 15 year guarantee.
What’s included in each pack?
Arborfence comes in two different sizes depending on the type of fence you want to create. Pack One contains five 150x1730mm tongue and groove fence boards and one 160x1730mm top finishing rail to create a single composite fencing panel measuring 1730mm wide by 910mm tall.
If you’d prefer a higher fence for more privacy and security, then you’ll need to pair Pack One with Pack Two to create panels that stand 1810mm tall. At almost double the height of standard Arborfence composite fencing, these are perfect for overlooked gardens and those with hot tubs.
Composite slotted fence posts are available to purchase separately and can be cut to the appropriate height. Post caps can also be added to neatly finish off the top of the fence posts.
What are the benefits of composite garden fences?
Sturdy and long-lasting fencing
As mentioned above, one of the main advantages of opting for composite fence posts and panels is their durability. This is due to the hardwearing recycled wood and plastic polymer that provides strength and superior weather-resistance. Combined with an interlocking system that requires no additional support, this makes Arborfence one of the toughest fences on the market.
Realistic wood grain finish
Don’t want to compromise on style? Great news – you won’t have to! Unlike older vinyl fencing systems that often look shiny when the sun hits them, Arborfence offers a matte finish that is much more aesthetically pleasing. The brushed design also mimics natural wood grain to create a semi-realistic timber look, without the downsides associated with real wood fence panels.
Low maintenance alternative to wood
While extremely popular, timber fences do require a lot of upkeep to maintain their condition. With composite fencing, on the other hand, you’ll never have to worry about re-staining or repainting your fence. Instead, each board is over-pigmented to allow for natural weathering in the first few weeks. After which, they will have faded to the desired colour and will stay this way for years to come. This type of fencing is also easy to clean with soap, water and a soft brush.
Eco-friendly plastic fence panels
If you’re concerned about your carbon footprint, then Trex fencing products should be right up your street. Containing a mix of recycled wood and sawdust, there is no need to cut trees down in order to create Arborfence systems. Likewise, the plastics used in their PVC fence panels come from a variety of existing sources. This helps to limit the environmental impact of developing new polymers and reduce the amount of discarded plastic ending up in landfill.
Easy for beginners to construct
The final notable benefit of purchasing an Aborfence composite fencing system is how easy they are to construct. Each fence post feature vertical slots created at the point of manufacture so that all you have to do is slide the individual boards in one on top the other to create a full panel. The tongue and grooved lower edge of each board holds them securely in place, while the top board boasts a smooth upper edge to give the fence a neat finish. Boards can be trimmed to reduce the fence panel width if required.
Wondering how best to set your composite fence posts in position? We also stock quick-setting Hanson Post Fix Mix in convenient 25kg bags. All you need to do is mix it with water, pour it into the hole surrounding the post and wait 5-10 minutes for the concrete to set. Simple!
What does composite fencing cost vs timber fencing?
The total cost of installing composite fence panels will depend on the size of your garden and number required. Each individual panel costs just over £100 plus the cost of fence posts and post caps, which puts Arborfence in the mid-price bracket of similar timber fencing products. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that this system will last longer and requires considerably less maintenance than wooden fences, making it a highly worthwhile investment in most cases.
