Garden Ideas During Lockdown
With the current restrictions on where we can and can’t go, now is the perfect time to get out in the garden! There are loads of ways you can give your outside spaces a makeover, and the whole family can get involved. Whether you have a large garden, a small courtyard or just a balcony, here are some great ideas for things to do around the garden during lockdown.
Revitalise your lawn
If your lawn is looking a bit tired and worn, give it a new lease of life. Remove all the weeds, add some grass seed in places that are looking a bit bare and give it a good mow. Tidy up any scruffy hedges or bushes and your garden will be easily transformed.
Create a vegetable patch
This is a great opportunity to grow some vegetables and fruit in your garden. There are plenty that can be sown and planted now, such as beetroot, carrots, runner beans, salad leaves, spring onions, swede, turnips, raspberries and strawberries. Even if you only have a windowsill, balcony or courtyard garden, you can get planting.
Raised flowerbeds
Raised beds are perfect for elderly people, making planting, digging and weeding so much easier. You can make a raised bed using sleepers to create the perfect height for you to work at. You can also use a wall-mounted trellis or freestanding planter to make your work in the garden comfortable.
Make a play zone for kids
The weather is getting better and we can’t go much further than our gardens at the moment, so why not make your outside space a fun place for your children to play? Having children doesn’t mean your garden has to become one massive play area – you can zone off areas for you all to enjoy. There are lots of ways you can transform your outside space into the perfect playground and kids will love having their own part of the garden. Whether something as simple as screens or slats to section off areas, or you go all out with a play area laid with bark to save your turf, the opportunities are endless.
Create a rockery or a water feature
While a pond can make a lovely addition to any garden, it can take a lot of maintaining. However, there are ways you can introduce a rockery or water feature into your garden, without the hard work. Creative use of decorative rockery stones can help to build a lovely feature, so you can enjoy a tranquil space in your garden. We have lots of beautiful options that can help you – have a look here for some inspiration!
In these unprecedented times, getting out in the garden is not only great for exercise and keeping the family entertained, but also good for mental health and wellbeing.
