AWBS Bagging Plant: Responsibly Sourced Aggregates & Gravels
At AWBS we’re proud to run and manage our very own bagging plant in Oxford – this means that not only can we source the very finest aggregates and decorative gravels directly from the quarry, we’re able to offer our customers the very best prices too!
Based in Gill Mill, near Witney, our bagging plant is where all of our bulk aggregates and decorative gravel start their journey to your door. Having our own bagging plant provides lots of benefits to our customers, from cost-effectiveness and quality to choice and speed of delivery.
Keeping costs down
Sourcing our products directly from the quarry eliminates the need for a ‘middle man’, which, in turn, reduces transport costs. And by bulk purchasing our aggregates and gravels, we’re able to pass on the price savings to you! All of our aggregates and gravels, including locally sourced products, such as local shingle, Cotswold chippings and 20mm Oxford gravel are bagged on site.
Choice and quality
Having our own large bagging plant facility means we’re able to offer our customers a wider range of sands and gravels than any other building and landscaping supplier in the Swindon and Oxford areas. It also means we can stock more varieties of aggregates and decorative gravel. Because we bag our own products – either ones we’ve sourced or those direct from the quarry – we have a far greater degree of quality control and traceability than other suppliers.
“By dealing directly with aggregate suppliers, we can ensure high levels of quality control and logistics in supplying our branches, so our customers are offered an unrivalled product range at very competitive prices.”
Gavin Jones, AWBS bagging plant manager
Large amounts of stock
Another great benefit of having our own bagging plant is that we can hold large quantities and a wide variety of stock to be supplied to customers, at short notice if needed. Whether our own materials that are dug and processed on site, or specialist products we source from around the country, we’re able to ensure high levels of stock are always available to both our trade and retail customers.
Environmentally friendly
By reducing the amount of transport required, we also reduce our emissions and a large amount of our aggregates are made from recycled materials. The AWBS Eco product range includes recycled sharp sand, recycled ballast and recycled shingles, which are processed at the quarry where our bagging plant is based.
Our Decorative slate is made from roofing slates and similar products produced in the UK, with the leftover material repurposed and turned into slate chippings. Our slate chippings are a by-product of the slate industry, with the raw materials being extracted from the slate quarries to produce a range of natural roofing tiles, and the surplus material being crushed down to either 20mm or 40mm slate chippings for use as a decorative gravel.
The other types of aggregates and decorative gravels we supply are derived from ethical sources around the UK and delivered to our bagging plant, where they’re bagged into various size loads and delivered to our branches.
Speed of delivery
We make daily deliveries from our bagging plant to our three AWBS branches and our Eynsham distribution centre. Having large amounts of products in stock means we can easily accommodate large trade orders of bulk aggregates and deliver them to sites quickly and our aggregate and gravel is available with free local delivery.
We supply and deliver aggregates and gravel in three sizes to suit any project, whether large or small.
- 850kg jumbo bulk bag
- 450kg half jumbo bulk bag
- 23kg small bags
Going from strength to strength
Always striving to offer our customers the very best products at the very best prices, we’re delighted to have grown immensely over the years – both in terms of our product ranges and our various sites across the area. Due to the success of our large choice of aggregates, shingles and chippings, as well as recycled products and horticultural materials, our bagging plant now has nine members of staff! They keep the materials flowing to meet our customers’ demands – in the summer months they can be flat out from 7am until 5pm, processing aggregates to be sent out to our branches and for delivery to trade and retail customers all over Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.
With any landscaping or building project, it’s sometimes hard to know how much material you’ll need. That’s why we have a simple online calculator that you can use to estimate the amount of decorative gravel you’ll need.
