6 Reasons to choose block paving
There are pros and cons to every type of driveway but in the case of block paving there’s many more advantages than there are disadvantages, don’t believe us? Check out the benefits below.
Block Paving Benefits
Choice
When it comes to choice block paving trumps any other type of driveway material, as with houses there’s many different types of brick you can use for block paving from the classic red brick to the more contemporary grey, the hardest part of choosing to have a block paving driveway will most certainly be choosing the bricks but our friendly team at AWBS can help you choose the right type for your project.
And if that wasn’t hard enough, once you’ve chosen the bricks from the dozens of colours in various styles we have in stock, you’ll then most likely want to add some block paving kerb stones of which there are just as many to choose from. Who said choice wasn’t a good thing?
Design
Only with block paving can you get really creative, from classic basketweave and herringbone patterns to fancy designs to the choice is yours. Use contrasting coloured blocks to create an attractive border or feature in the centre of your driveway, while matching kerbstones will add the perfect finishing touch. Drainage
It’s common knowledge that puddles forming means poor drainage which is a bad sign especially when it comes to driveways. Luckily, block paving has excellent drainage thanks to the substrate below and if you live in an area that’s prone to surface water or heavy rain you can even opt for permeable block paving which provides even better drainage when compared to regular block paving.
Repairability
Since block paving is built with individual bricks repairing a broken or stained paving brick is easy since you can quite literally pull up the affected bricks and replace them with new ones. A good tip is to buy more a few more paving bricks than needed and store them in the garden. If you ever need to replace a block or two, the spare bricks will have aged, and it will not be so obvious they have been replaced.
Durability
Although block paving is easy to repair it’s also worth mentioning that you’ll probably never have to repair it thanks to the durability of the bricks that are used in block paving. It would take an incredibly large whack to break one of the bricks once installed (if installed correctly). The most common cause of issue when it comes to block paving is having a loose brick or staining (usually car oil) but as mentioned above this is easily fixed and probably wouldn’t even need a professional to come out, especially if you’re handy at DIY.
Property value
A new driveway can increase property value and block paving is known to increase property value by more than other types of driveway materials such as gravel or asphalt and this makes perfect sense as from a homebuyer’s perspective, it’s just one less thing to worry about as a well-constructed block paving driveway can last decades.
So there we have it, a definitive reason to choose block paving for your driveway over other materials because quite simply… It’s just better. For information, advice and help choosing the perfect block paving for your new driveway, contact or visit your local AWBS branch.
